On 27 August 2026, President Macky Sall took part, as a panelist, in the World Government Summit organised by the United Arab Emirates. The debate, devoted to the future of global leadership, led him to address the link between peace and development, the role of regional organisations, and the challenges of artificial intelligence.
A global platform for the candidacy. The World Government Summit brings together leaders, experts and public officials from every continent. The presence of President Macky Sall, a candidate for the office of UN Secretary-General, carried the lines of his vision before a global audience, beyond the UN setting alone.
AI, a challenge of governance first. Before the panel, President Macky Sall placed artificial intelligence among the questions that call for common rules. The technology advances faster than the states meant to govern it; left to a few actors, it would widen the gap between those who produce it and those who endure it. Global AI governance follows the line of his candidacy.
Peace, development, regions: one coherence. The debate joined three threads that the vision filed with the UN holds together: a peace conceived with development, regional organisations brought into decisions, and a multilateralism able to write the rules of new technologies. The Emirates, hosts of a summit devoted to the future of public action, offered a natural audience for that message.
Experience in multilateral negotiation. Twelve years as head of state and the chairmanship of the African Union in 2022 underpin these commitments. That experience explains why the vision statement filed with the United Nations frames its proposals as obligations: peace, security and development conceived together; a renewed multilateralism; stronger governance of the Organization.
