Devoted to the future of global leadership, the debate led him to address the challenges of artificial intelligence, then the link between peace and development and the role of regional organisations.
A summit on public action. Focused on the future of public action, the World Government Summit brings together leaders and public officials from every continent. As a candidate for UN Secretary-General, President Macky Sall set out the lines of his vision there before a global audience, outside the UN setting alone.
Common rules for artificial intelligence. Before the panel, the candidate placed artificial intelligence among the questions that call for common rules. The technology moves faster than the states meant to govern it. Left to a few actors, it would widen the gap between a handful of producing countries and everyone else. Global AI governance is among the proposals of his candidacy.
Peace and regional organisations. The debate's two other themes match the vision filed with the UN. It conceives peace together with development and brings regional organisations into decisions.
Twelve years at the head of a state. That record, together with the chairmanship of the African Union in 2022, grounds the positions he defended at the Summit. It also explains why the vision statement filed with the United Nations frames its proposals as obligations. One of its three pillars, the renewal of multilateralism, aims at a system able to write the rules of new technologies as well.
