The Macky Sall UN campaign reached a visible milestone on 6 July in New York. In a single day, President Macky Sall held separate talks with three Permanent Representatives to the United Nations: Fu Cong of China, Michael Waltz of the United States and Jérôme Bonnafont of France.

The discussions covered UN reform, governance and the future of multilateralism. The meetings are part of the normal consultation phase: every candidate is expected to engage with the fifteen members of the Security Council, including its five permanent members.

The day capped an intense diplomatic sequence. In late June, President Macky Sall met Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing. On 2 July, he was received in Athens by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. Four days later, he brought his vision to the heart of the Security Council.

The calendar explains the pace. According to the Security Council Report, Council members are continuing their meetings with candidates in July and are expected to hold their first straw polls in the last week of the month.

President Macky Sall's message remains the same with every interlocutor: a reformed and effective United Nations, closer cooperation with regional organizations, and prevention at the core of the Organization's work, as set out in his vision statement filed with the UN in March.

The regional stake remains. No African has led the Organization since Boutros Boutros-Ghali, thirty years ago. President Macky Sall is the only declared African candidate in a field of six.

The coming weeks will be decisive: further consultations, the first straw polls, then the Security Council's recommendation to the General Assembly. The next Secretary-General's term begins on 1 January 2027.
