On 17 June 2026, President Macky Sall held talks with Her Excellency Baiba Braže, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia. Latvia sits on the Security Council as an elected member. The meeting belongs to the series of consultations the candidate is holding with the members of the Council.

The discussion turned to the future of the Organization and to a United Nations better suited to the challenges of our time. With crises multiplying and tensions deepening, the Organization must respond faster and act more fairly. President Macky Sall set out the answers he proposes in his vision for the United Nations.

During the meeting, the candidate praised Latvia's firm commitment to the Charter of the United Nations and to international law. He also paid tribute to the steadiness with which the country defends the founding principles of the Organization. The exchange strengthened one of his convictions: respect for international law is a pillar of his project for the UN.

President Macky Sall's approach follows a simple rule, under which the campaign listens to the permanent members of the Security Council and to its ten elected members alike. The elected members carry the voice of their regions and take full part in the selection of the next Secretary-General. Their views and expectations shape the candidate's project.

The meeting extends the diplomatic sequence opened in early June. After Paris, the dialogue continues with the elected members of the Council. At each encounter, President Macky Sall presents his record and his priorities: conflict prevention, reform of global governance, financing for development and respect for international law.

These meetings will continue in the coming weeks. President Macky Sall intends to see every member of the Security Council before the private consultations scheduled for July, and to keep up dialogue with the regional groups at the General Assembly. The official website www.mackysall.net will report on each step of this effort of listening and dialogue.
